İnandığımız, bildiğimiz, veya zannettiğimiz bir şeyi karşımızdaki
kişi veya kişilere kabul ettirmek için sorduğumuz soru şeklidir.

“................., değil mi?” diye sorulur.

Elma seversin, değil mi? (Olumlu)

ya da,

Ufuk ödevini yapmadı , değil mi? (Olumsuz)

 

Yukarıdaki örneklerde görüldüğü gibi  olumlu veya olumsuz bütün şahıslarda
her zaman “değil mi?” sorulmasına karşılık İngilizce’ de

A) cümlenin olumlu
b) veya olumsuz oluşuna,
c) zamanına ve
d) şahıslara göre değişir.

1) Cümlede hangi yardımcı fiil varsa o kullanılır.

The cat is sleeping, isn’t it?
Kedi uyuyor, değil mi?

They will come again, won't they?
Tekrar gelecekler, deği mi?

You can speak Italian, can’t it?
Italyanca konuşabilirsin, değil mi?

2) Cümle olumlu ise TQ olumsuz olur.

You like ice cream, don’t you?
Siz dondurma seversiniz, değil mi?


3) Cümle olumsuz ise TQ olumlu olur.

They don't get up late, do they? 
Onlar geç kalkmazlar, değil mi?

4) Cümlenin zamanı kalıbı (tense’i) ne ise,
     ek soru nun zaman kalıbında olur.

You didn't work there, did you?
Orada çalışmadınız, değil mi?

Kaya is a bus driver, isn’t he?
Kaya otobüs şöförüdür, değil mi?


5) TQ’larda daima şahıs zamirleri kullanılır.

The children are playing football here, aren’t they?
Çocuklar top oynuyorlar, değil mi?

Everybody is her, aren't they?

Not: 'Everybody' İngilizcede, tekil kabul edilir.
Ama bunları cevaplarında ve TQ’larda “they” kullanılır.
Bu nedenle yukarıdaki cümlede “aren’t they” kullanıldı.


6) Bazı durumlarda question tags'ler
cümlenin yardımcı fiilinden farklı kullanılır.
Bu istisna durumları ezberlemek gerekir.
Aşağıdaki cümlelere dikkat ediniz.

- I am right, aren't I?
   Ben zenginim, değil mi?

(Normalde cümlenin yardımcı fiili am olduğu halde
 "amn't" yardımcı fiili bulunmadığından "aren't" kullanılır.
